http://www.crac-kebec.org/qui-sommes-nous).

As part of the Festival of Anarchy, the Research Collective on Collective Autonomy (CRAC) invites anti-authoritarians who identify as feminists and/or queers to take part in a discussion on our organizing practices and analyses.

Radical queers and feminists organize on a diverse range of issues above and beyond their common fight against patriarchy including but not limited to heteronormativity, transphobia, racism, colonialism, and ableism.

Over more than four years, the CRAC has worked on documenting contemporary struggles against different systems of oppression, in particular patriarchy and heteronormativity.

Based on our research findings collected from interviews and focus groups with at least a hundred Quebec activists, we propose the following two themes of discussion:

  • “Intersectionality” and anti-oppression practices: what are our anti-oppression analyses and how do they get implemented in our work?
  • Understanding of “nous-femmes” and organizing in “women’s-only” spaces: Along what affinities do we choose to organize, what are our alliances, and what impact do these choices have on our organizing practices?

We hope to create an open space for queers and feminists to dialogue and exchange in a respectful manner on these issues. After a short presentation on these two topics by members of CRAC, we will split into smaller groups for discussion and debate.

The CRAC has arrived at certain conclusions based on our completed research thus far (for more info visit: http://www.crac-kebec.org/qui-sommes-nous). In this research, reflections and debates on anti-oppression, as well as the relevance of organizing in
groups whose membership is restricted to particular identities – in particular “women’s-only” spaces – are two recurring priorities that can be seen in the day-to-day organizing of many contemporary anti-authoritarian queer and feminist groups in Quebec.

These reflections are visible in the struggles and campaigns of these organizers and are also being pushed within anti-authoritarian movements at large in an attempt to create safer spaces. Given the importance of these issues, we aim to create a space where they can be discussed and debated in further detail by the activists directly implicated in these struggles.

To contextualize the discussion within our research completed thus far, we propose reading the following texts as a starting point:

(We apologize that an English translation of this text is not yet available but will be very soon).

This discussion will be followed by a free dinner!

Participation is limited: please reserve a spot in advance by emailing us at info@crac-kebec.org or calling us at 514-848-2424 ext. 8709.
