CKUT Off the Hour: Launch of a five-year study on homophobic bullying across North America

Reports of homophobic bullying have skyrocketed in the past couple of years, gaining particular attention in the media because of a number of suicides that resulted from specific instances of adolescent bullying resulting from homophobia.  Dr. Elizabeth Saewyc is the public health chair of the Canadian Institute of Health Research, and is conducting a new five-year study evaluating the impact of anti-gay bullying in several Canadian provinces and American states, and the effectiveness of initiatives to combat the bullying.  She spoke about the scope and purpose of the study, as well as about the potential long-term consequences of homophobic bullying in particular
