As thousands of Egyptians continue to take to the streets in opposition to President Hosni Mubarak's dictatorship, hundreds did the same in Montreal as a show of support and solidarity.

About 700 people marched from Dorchester Square to the Egyptian Consulate in Montreal, chanting "Mubarak, dégage" and other slogans in English, French & Arabic.

Out in the streets were Egyptians, but also Quebeckers, Canadians, and especially Tunisians who, after their own revolution, hope to see others across the Middle East.

Organizers said they will take to the street in front of the consulate everyday until Mubarak and his government step down. They also denounced the Canadia government for taking a soft approach to Mubarak. Minister of Foreign Affairs Lawrence Cannon has said that they Canadian government supports a gradual transition of power, as suggested by Mubarak himself. Most other governments, including the US, and-even more importantly-the Egyptian people, have rejected Mubarak's proposal.

Rally organizers have called for others to join them every day this week at 1000 de la Gauchetière ouest from 5 to 6 pm, with a large rally planned for Tuesday as part as an international call for trade unionists to show their support for the pro-democratic uprising.
