In 1993, new policies introduced at Southern Ohio Correctional Facility
sparked an 11-day uprising at the prison. The uprising involved over 400
prisoners who came together across gang and racial divides. The state
has since targeted anyone they can pinpoint as being involved in the
uprising, and have built up cases against the supposed leaders using
snitch/coerced testimony, and obstruction access to evidence and legal
counsel. Five men were accused of organizing a prisoner death squad to
kill prisoner informants and now are facing the death penalty. In 2010,
four of the men on death row went on hunger strike to protest the
conditions of extreme isolation they have been detained in for the last
18 years in Ohio's super-max prison, and succeeded in winning some of
their demands. During this letter-writing, we will connect the
Lucasville uprising and hunger strikes, to other notable instances of
prisoner rebellion in the last few years, and discuss the relevance,
strengths, and weaknesses of anarchist support and organizing around
these moments.

Presentation including a phone call from one of the prisoners,
letter-writing, and dinner! Vegan options available.
