CKUT Radio: Northerners Speak Up Against High Food Prices in Nunavut

Interview with Eric Joamie, co-founder of Feeding My Family

CKUT Radio: Northerners Speak Up Against High Food Prices in Nunavut

For many Canadians feeding your family is a given, but for families in northern Canada it is not the case. Many northern families face a difficult choice: who gets to eat? This is because of the high cost of basic necessities, like milk, bread, breakfast cereal, fresh or frozen fruit, and even bottled water. Baby formula exceeds seventy dollars for a case of 12 cans of infant concentrate, and about forty dollars for a forty pack of diapers. Here in Montreal, you can find these items for $30 and $13, respectively.

Eric Joamie, a Nunavut resident, and others are no longer willing to sit idle their neighbours and families face difficult economic choices and malnutrition. They created the campaign Feeding My Family. Eric joined CKUT Radio to talk about food prices and the upcoming Nunavut wide protest on August 25. Listen to what he has to say on this important matter. For more information there is a web page dedicated to this cause called feedingmyfamily.org and a facebook group.
