Twenty people are engaging in a 600km march from Rimouski to Montreal in protest of shale gas and fossil fuel use in Quebec. They are demanding a 20-year moratorium on shale gas exploration in the province. The walkers began their trek on Monday, May 16 and will arrive at their final destination in Montreal on Saturday, June 18.

Moratoire d'une génération : Une grande marche de Rimouski à Montréal se met en branle, jusqu'au 18 juin.

Le lundi 16 mai, à 8 h 30, au Parc de la Gare de Rimouski, s'est mise en branle la Grande Marche de la Campagne Moratoire d'une Génération, qui revendique un moratoire de 20 ans sur les gaz de schiste et les autres énergies sales au Québec. La marche se terminera à Montréal, le 18 juin, après s'être arrêtée dans 33 municipalités riveraines du fleuve.

Tous sont invités à rejoindre cette grande marche !

Les personnes qui poursuivent la marche doivent s'inscrire afin de profiter du service d'hébergement et d'alimentation offert par l'organisation de la Marche. Les marcheurs d'un jour sont invités à apporter leur lunch pour le dîner.

About:

Natascia Lypny, a Montreal native, is a contributing member of the Halifax Media Co-op and sits on its editorial collective. She has also been involved with starting up the Montreal Media Co-op and interned at The Dominion in the summer of 2011. Currently, Natascia is a journalism student at the University of King's College entering her fourth year of study. She is also pursuing social anthropology studies at Dalhousie University. Natascia writes regularly for King's student newspaper, The Watch, and is the acting President of the Journalists for Human Rights chapter at her school. She is heavily involved with the King's Theatrical Society and other areas of school life. Natascia has freelanced, and interned at, several other publications across Canada, including The Coast, the Chronicle Herald and Spacing. Her work can be found on her personal website.
