Le vendredi 6 mai prochain se tiendra la 37e édition d’une soirée haute en couleurs à l’aréna du Centre St-Charles, au 1055 rue Hibernia, de 17h30 à 21h30. Au menu de la soirée, il y aura la tenue de kiosques d’information et de vente par les groupes citoyens et communautaires du quartier. Par la suite, nous assisterons au spectacle de la merveilleuse chorale de la Pointe Libertaire. De plus, cette année, il y aura un vaste choix d’articles ménagers et des vêtements mis en vente à prix modiques par Les Friperies Madame Prend Congé!
La Soirée Solidarité édition 2011, c’est un grand bazar où participent près d’une trentaine de groupes du quartier de Pointe-Saint-Charles afin de vendre du bric-à-brac local et des œuvres artisanales. Cet évènement se veut avant tout un moment de solidarité et d’entraide envers un organisme du quartier. En effet, tous les profits faits lors de la soirée vont directement à un groupe local qui vit une situation financière difficile. Cette année, l’organisme bénéficiaire est Madame Prend Congé : le centre des femmes de Pointe-Saint-Charles.
Madame Prend Congé est un organisme à but non lucratif qui œuvre à améliorer les conditions de vie des femmes de Pointe-Saint-Charles en leur offrant entre autres un lieu de rencontre et un service de friperie qui donne accès à de la marchandise de qualité à moindre coût. De plus, le projet de friperie favorise le recyclage, prépare les femmes au marché du travail, crée des emplois et offre un service de dons d’urgence pour répondre aux besoins essentiels des personnes en difficultés.
Les fonds amassés durant la Soirée Solidarité serviront à soutenir financièrement les Friperies Madame Prend Congé et à leur donner une certaine marge de manœuvre pour poursuivre leurs recherches de financement récurrent.

On Friday the 6th of May the 37th edition of the annual Solidarity Night will be held at the Centre St-Charles Arena at 1055 Hibernia street between 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Scheduled for the evening will be an array of informational kiosks as well as a variety of items for sale by and from neighbourhood citizen and community groups from Pointe-Saint-Charles. This year visitors will be treated to a free show by the socially engaged choir from the Pointe Libertaire and they will have first dibs on a large choice of household items as well as clothing at unbeatable prices sold by Les Friperies Madame Prend Congé.
Tradionally, the Solidarity Night is a great big bazaar where community organizations from Pointe-Saint-Charles pull together to fundraise through the sale of local items and hand-crafted objects. This event is a neighbourhood landmark of solidarity and community support for a local organization in need. Indeed, all the funds raised during the Solidarity Night go to a specific local organization that is having financial difficulties. This year, the beneficiary is Madame Prend Congé : the Women’s Center of Pointe-Saint-Charles.
Madame Prend Congé is a non profit organization that works towards improving the condition of women in Pointe-Saint-Charles. Their good deeds include offering women a place to meet and get help, helping women integrate the work force by creating as well as offering them a job at their second-hand shop (Friperie), giving the community access to affordable clothing and household items, and to top it all off, offering emergency assistance to people in need.
The funds raised during the Solidarity Night 2011 will go to help Friperies Madame Prend Congé. These funds will help them financially in order to pursue their good deeds and hopefully find reoccurring financial support in the future.
