EN PÉRIPHÉRIE: LUTTER AVEC SES ADDICTIONS DANS LES MILIEUX ANARCHISTES
ET RADICAUX

Vivre une addiction peut vouloir dire plusieurs choses pour beaucoup de
monde.

La façon dont on vit et lutte avec nos addictions sont diverses,
dépendant de l'histoire de chacun, de nos identités et de la durée de
notre consommation.

Les milieux radicaux et anarchistes n'offre pas beaucoup d'opportunité
de dialoguer par rapport au luttes que nous menons avec nos addictions.
Ses opportunités sont importantes, considérant la place que la
consommation occupe dans nos vie. Il est aussi important de dévier de
plusieurs discours anarchistes écrit sur le sujet. Trop souvent, ses
textes poses des jugements et sont orienté vers l’abstinence, négligeant
(intentionnellement ou non) notre capacité de décidé ce qui est mieux
pour nous. L'analyse des rapports aux multiples barrières auxquels nous
devons faire face quand on essaie d'arrêter et des raisons pour lesquels
nous consommons manque aussi souvent. Ce ne sont que quelques exemples
qui démontre pourquoi il faut plus de dialogue pour que nous puissions
développer des stratégies et des réseaux de support qui existe à
l'extérieur des ressources gouvernementales limitées et inadéquates.

Le 15 mai, nous offrirons souper et «chilling» pour ceux et celles qui
s'identifie comme une personne souffrant d'une addiction puisse
s'exprimer sur leurs différentes expériences, des façons de briser les
stigmates et l'isolation autour de cette merde. Parlons de nos besoins,
de comment nous pouvons nous supporter dans un environnement autonome,
radical et antiétatique.

Toute personne s'identifiant comme un ou une addict aux drogue et/ou à
l'alcool est la bienvenue. Que tu soit un consommateur/trice qui n'a pas
l'intention d'arrêter, qui à arrêter, qui essai d'arrêter ou un ou une
consommateur/trice occasionnel/le, sens toi libre de venir dans un
espace «relax». Par chance, des idées excitantes peuvent en sortir!!

On the Outskirts: Struggling with Addiction in Radical/Anarchist Scenes

(English)

Addiction can mean a lot of things to different people. The ways each
person experiences and struggles with their addiction(s) are diverse,
depending on people's histories, identities and the length of time folks
have been using.

Within the radical/anarchist scene in Montreal there aren't a lot of
specific opportunities to talk about the struggles we have coping with
our addictions. Such opportunities are important, considering how being
a user is often so ingrained into our daily lives. I believe it is also
important to deviate from a lot of the anarchist discourse written about
this topic. So often this writing is abstinence focused and judgmental,
taking away (unintentionally or not) people's right to self-determine
what is best for them. Often also lacking is an analysis of the many
barriers people may face when attempting to access resources to help
them quit, as well as why someone might use in the first place. These
are just some examples as to why there is a need for more dialogue in
order for us to develop strategies and support networks that exist
outside of the limited and often fucked up government-funded resources.

On May 15th at La Belle Epoque, there will be a chill dinner and hang
out where people who identify as struggling with addiction can come hang
out and get to talk about the many ways we experience our addictions,
how we can break some of the stigma/isolation around this shit and to
talk directly about what our needs might be and how we can support each
other to get them met in a more autonomous, radical, anti-state way.

Anyone who identifies as struggling specifically with a drug/alcohol
addiction is welcome to come. Whether you are currently a user who has
no interest in quitting, have quit, are currently trying to quit, or
have periods of off and on using - wherever you are at with this shit,
feel free to come hang out in a low key, chill space. Hopefully some
exciting ideas can come out of this!!
