Air Canada is accused of serving in its on-board menu 2 controversial products, Sabra Hummus and Eden Springs water. Also, it was recently discovered that Air Canada has a contract with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).
Why these companies/products are controversial?
- Sabra Hummus is a partner with Strauss Group. Strauss group is known for supporting two Israeli military units implicated in human rights abuses, the Golani and Givati brigades
- Eden Springs water is produced in an illegal Israeli settlement in the occupied Golan Heights
- Israel Aerospace Industries is a military defense company wholly owned by the government of Israel. IAI is well-known for its drone technology often “tested” on Gazans

BDS activists call for the boycott of Air Canada
As a result of these findings, BDS activists started a major campaign of condemnation against Air Canada, and are demanding that the airline stops profiting immediately from Israeli occupation and breaks its contracts with all these companies.
To learn more about this we talked to Vancouver-based activist, Aiyanas Ormond, who explained to us why this major airline company became the latest target of the BDS movement in Canada.
What is BDS?
In 2005, Palestinian civil society issued a call for a campaign of boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it complies with international law and Palestinian rights. The campaign for boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS) is shaped by a rights-based approach and highlights the three broad sections of the Palestinian people: the refugees, those under military occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and Palestinians in Israel. The call urges various forms of boycott against Israel until it meets its obligations under international law.
