Manifestation Montreal June 7

Greve-Strike

by M. Evans

Police Brutality, Montreal, June 7
Police Brutality, Montreal, June 7

The context: Downtown around 10:30-11 pm, June 7, the mass protest had by then broken up, though the cops were still out in full force. I was walking in a loose group of about 10 people, none of whom I know, when one of the guys in the group, wearing a blue Mtl. Canadiennes T-shirt, suddenly bolted. A woman in the group called out to him, telling him not to run, but it was too late. The police pretended to "take him down": he turned out to be an undercover cop. Now they had their excuse, and started to converge on whoever was on the street (which had been closed off for pedestrians for the F-1). They were running past me as I continued to walk ahead, and as they did so one of them punched me in my left side as another hit my thigh with his bat, which knocked me face down on the pavement. (I took a photograph of the result one I'd returned home). That's when another office told me get up-which I could hardly do so-or else face arrest. ... Thank you to the guy who stopped to ask whether I was okay (thus putting himself in danger; I think he may have been arrested or else also clubbed), for all the inspiring expressions of solidarity, and those kind strangers who provided the French translation below. I'm not sure what street I was on. If anyone who sees this was there, please get in touch with me.

Contexte: Downtown autour 22:30-23:00.
