Alter-Globalization Posters from Québec on 10th Anniversary of FTAA Protests / Affiches alter-mondialistes 10 ans après les manifs contre la ZLÉA au Sommet des Amériques

For the 10th anniversary of the April 2001 Summit of the Americas protests in Québec City against the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), here is a selection of posters related to the FTAA (and other related) protests, taken from the book: Picture This!: Posters of Social Movements in Québec (1966-2007) by Jean-Pierre Boyer, Jean Desjardins and David Widgington. The book was published in 2007 by Cumulus Press. Each of these posters are archived with over 20,000 others in the impressive collection at the Centre for Research in Popular Imagery (CRIP).

Memories

!! OMG !! I am so flooded with the hundreds of hours spent designing, printing, postering stickering, etc., from back then. Thanks so much for this blast from the past! And learn the lessons that most of us did from the original IDAs: That it's impossible to protest against social relations. Capitalism is a structure for social relations, so you can't rally against it, you have to bring new modalities of relating into ascendance culturally and socio-economically.

Hey Greg,

I'm glad you like it. It is indeed a flashback of protest, solidarity throughout the hemisphere and tearing down fences!

Memories are not just interesting for their nostalgia, they are also reminders to tread forward with increasing vigour.
