Why not non-violence? (EN)

Tuesday june 5, 17h - 19h

Non-violence is often considered the norm of protest, while acts of selfdefense and other forms of violence are considered hazardous deviations. The mythology which grew around 20th century movements made the tactics ofMLKjr and Gandhi universal models, generalized without context. Thispresentation aims to illuminate the problematic foundations of thenon-violence ideology. Drawing from history, theory, and documented socialexperiments, we will critically examine non-violent resistance within acontext of ongoing state violence against protesters and social movements. From there, we will have a discussion about the relationship of nonviolenceto the diversity of tactics within larger strategies of self defense and radical political change.
