In a bit of a meta-event today, the CBC ran an interview with newly re-electd heritage minister James Moore about the future of the publicly funded broadcaster. Moore assured the reporter that the CBC's future is secure:
"The CBC is the infrastructure around which Canadian arts and culture is built, so of course it is central and it is key," he said.
As the article states, Moore has given support to the CBC's five year plan. But, according to Friends of Canadian Broadcasting, on November 23, 2010, Dean Del Mastro, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage stated:
"Maybe it's time we get out of the broadcasting business.... The $1.1 billion, plus a whole bunch of other stuff that we're investing into the public broadcaster, should we look at reorganizing that in some fashion?”
The question to me is whether, the day af ter an election, the heritage minister would actually give an answer other than this one to the organization who's purse strings he controls.
What do you think?
