Stéfanie Clermont is making history.
As a journalist member for the Coop média de Montréal (CMM), she offers our Francophone readers coverage of local life-stories as well as large scale events. Stéfanie is part of the CMM's interim editorial committee, participates in regular meetings, and produces new content and features for the CMM website.
Her regular contributions include her piece about the forced treatment of mental health patients, and her coverage for CKUT 90.3FM’s The Red Square Report on the momentous student strikes against tuition hikes in Québec. Her reports delicately handle the fraught relationship between History (in which change is pegged to large processes, invisible forces often beyond the particular individual) and history (the site of difference, of memory, loss and longing).
“It’s a disempowering illusion that we on the grassroots level don’t have the power to make history…we do!
You don’t have to be a professional journalist to be a professional journalist. The way that you see things is important and is relevant and The Media Co-op is a great place to develop your skills and share your point of view with other people because the more points of view we have, the better understanding we have of the time that we live in.”

A poet in her spare time, Stéfanie’s actions speak as loud as her words, and she is one of an increasing number of Canadians who are choosing to Own Their Media. Please consider providing one hour of your wages as a monthly donation to support quality alternative journalism in Montreal and Canada.
