In this presentation, Bassam Haddad, professor and editor with the Jadaliyya Ezine, discusses the structural causes for the emergence of the Syrian uprising and the factors that explain the stalemate thus far. He specifically speaks about critical questions of regional politics, particularly those related to the issue of resistance and the left. Much of his talk drew on the research he conducted for his recent book: Business Networks in Syria: The Political Economy of Authoritarian Resilience
